What is Hypoxico Training?


Altitude training, also known as hypoxic training, involves exercising in, living in, or otherwise breathing oxygen-reduced air for the purpose of improved athletic performance, pre-acclimatization to altitude, and/or physical wellness.


Traditionally, individuals had to travel to or live at high elevations to obtain the benefits of altitude training. Circa 1995, the patented technology of Hypoxico Inc. eliminated this hardship by allowing high altitude training facilities to be set up anywhere. Through the production of normobaric hypoxic (oxygen reduced) air, we can simulate altitudes of up to 21,000ft/6,400m. As a result, athletes, fitness enthusiasts and health conscious individuals worldwide can take advantage of the benefits associated with altitude training while at sea-level.


Why Altitude Training Works


When the human body is exposed to hypoxia (oxygen reduced environments), it struggles to produce required amounts of energy with less available oxygen. This struggle triggers the onset of a range of physiological adaptations geared towards enhancing the efficiency of the body's respiratory, cardiovascular and oxygen utilization systems.


Studies have shown that spending time at altitude causes the desired physiological responses, but the inability to train with the full oxygen availability of sea-level caused a de-training that tends to negate the gains. Altitude training allows you the benefits of both sleeping high and training low.


Altitude training improves physical performance at sea-level and at altitude by enhancing muscle function and increasing the transport and uptake of oxygen by the body.  Through sleeping, exercising, and/or intermittent breathing, individuals and teams can naturally increase power, endurance and recovery.


The proper altitude training program can substantially boost body’s oxygen transport systems through enhanced ventilation, naturally increased EPO production and increased mitochondrial efficiency. This will allow more efficient energy production both aerobically as well as anaerobically. Ultimately this will allow the athlete to experience:
